Okajima Out, Doubront In
Earlier today the Red Sox put reliever Hideki Okajima on the disabled list with a hamstring strain. The team brought up lefty Felix Doubront to take Okajima's place in the bullpen. Thus far, Doubront has been solely a starter in his career, but has recently made the transition to a reliever in order to help out Boston's dismal bullpen.
Okajima said today that he's gone through a number of back and hip issues dating all the way back to spring training, which has resulted in his hamstring problem. He's going to undergo treatment, including some accupuncture before rejoining the team in Toronto next week for another assessment.
Sox Work Out Delgado
The Red Sox also sought to help ease their loss of Kevin Youkilis by working out veteran Carlos Delgado today at Yankee Stadium where the team starts a four game series tonight. The 38 year old is recovering from offseason hip surgery and is available on the free agent market. Right now, Mike Lowell likely will be the everyday first baseman with Victor Martinez also seeing some time there. However, Delgado could provide a solid bat off the bench if the team feels it needs an upgrade in that area.
