Clay Buchholz had to wait an hour and a half before finally throwing his first pitch against the Blue Jays. After just two innings, he had to sit for another hour. Despite the weather issues, the righty's confidence never wavered. Buchholz shut down Toronto over six innings, picking up his 15th win of the year in a 5-0 Red Sox victory. He also lowered his AL-leading earned run average to a miniscule 2.26.
Bill Hall blasted a two-run home run off Toronto starter Shawn Marcum to help lead the offensive effort. Victor Martinez, Adrian Beltre and David Ortiz also added an RBI apiece in the win. Boston took two of three in the weekend series with the Jays.
Buchholz didn't display the same kind of dominance he has during several of his starts this year. He was forced to work out of some tough situations, but he pitched his best whenever his back was against the wall. After walking a couple batters early, Buchholz managed to adjust thanks to his excellent changeup. The righty picked up seven strikeouts en route to the win.
Thus far the Sox are 4-2 part way through a nine game homestand. Even after being crushed by the Jays on Friday night, Boston continues to try and fight to regain ground in the playoff race. However, the Yankees and Rays refuse to their part as both are still winning at a pace on par or better than that of Boston, keeping the Red Sox at arm's length.
